Interphase forward looking [horizontal] sonar

Does anyone have experience with horizontal sonars for collision avoidance
with water borne objects ?

Even if not Interphase, any related experience with horizontal sonars for
this purpose...would be appreciated.

I've been attempting to evaluate this use for safety aboard a personal
sailboat.
